Zainab will be reading her book Noura's Crescent Moon & Mindy will be reading her book Sami's Special Gift: An Eid al-Adha Story. Zainab Khan is a local, BIPOC author. As a Muslim woman of Pakistani heritage who has lived in different parts of the world, she writes diverse stories that promote empathy, kindness, and unity between children of all faiths and cultures. She is represented by Stephanie Fretwell-Hill at Red Fox Literary. Zainab’s debut picture book, NOURA'S CRESCENT MOON, will be released by Candlewick on April 16, 2024. Her second picture book, HANA'S HAJJ, will be available Spring of 2026. Part of her proceeds will be donated to Givelight.org. M.O. Yuksel is the award-winning author of IN MY MOSQUE, RAMADAN KAREEM (both illus. Hatem Aly), ONE WISH: Fatima al-Fihri and the World’s Oldest University, (illus. Mariam Quraishi), and SAMI’S SPECIAL GIFT: An Eid Al-Adha Story (illus. Huseyin Sonmezay). Her forthcoming book, THE PRINCE OF STARS: Ulugh Beg’s Quest to Map the Stars and Seasons (illus. Zelma Firdausi), will be out in 2025. Yuksel loves writing about diverse cultures and little-known historical figures.
