Profiles in Mental Health Courage Book Launch and Signing @ COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS OF PHILADELPHIA

About this Event

Join New York Times bestselling co-authors Patrick J. Kennedy, the nation's leading voice on mental health and addiction policy, and Stephen Fried, award-winning journalist, for a discussion on their latest book, Profiles in Mental Health Courage. The event will be moderated by Maiken Scott, host and executive producer of "The Pulse" on WHYY. Register with the College of Physicians at the link here.

PROFILES IN MENTAL HEALTH COURAGE takes an unflinching look at the experience of mental health and addiction, introducing readers to people of many ages, backgrounds, and futures, across politics and government, Hollywood and the arts, tech and business, sports and science—some recovering, some relapsing, some just barely holding on.

Patrick J. Kennedy is the nation’s leading voice on mental health and addiction policy, and the New York Times bestselling coauthor of A Common Struggle. During his sixteen years in Congress, he fought to end discrimination against mental health care, highlighted by lead sponsorship of the landmark Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act. Soon after the death of his father, Senator Edward “Ted” Kennedy, he left Congress to devote himself to mental health advocacy, founding The Kennedy Forum, which unites the community of mental health, and co-founding One Mind to address these issues. He lives in New Jersey with his wife, Amy, and their five children.

Stephen Fried is an award-winning journalist and bestselling author who teaches at Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania. He is the author of Rush, Appetite for America, Thing of Beauty, Bitter Pills, and The New Rabbi and coauthor, with Congressman Patrick Kennedy, of A Common Struggle. A two-time winner of the National Magazine Award, Fried has written frequently for Vanity Fair, GQ, The Washington Post Magazine, Glamour, and Philadelphia Magazine. He lives in Philadelphia with his wife, author Diane Ayres.
