After growing up in California and Nevada, some wandering college years and a stint in the Army's 82nd Airborne Division, Andrew (‘AJ’) went on to a career in the energy industry. Eventually he spent 20 years living and working abroad, including in Europe, Africa and Asia, and in 2018 finally returned to the US, where he currently resides with his wife (of 34 years) in Houston. ‘Eugenesis: Inception’ is Andrew's debut novel, and was inspired by his love of storytelling and the tapestry of cultures and experiences he encountered in his travels. In addition to writing, he loves reading, mentors for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America organization, loves (and sometimes collects) art, and remains an avid and curious traveler. Andrew is also the proud father of a talented songwriter-singer (Kira) who currently resides in the San Francisco area.

Alina Leticia Zárate is currently a PhD student in the Energy and Resources Group at the University of California, Berkeley and longtime farmworker justice advocate. She began working as an intern for the United Farm Workers of America in 2019 and, since then, has dedicated her personal and professional career to investigating the relationship between climate change and farm labor. She has studied agricultural adaptations and labor migrations in Chile and Australia. A recipient of a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship, she is committed to raising the voices of those best positioned to speak to changes in the environment and in agriculture, recognizing their expertise and experience in a quickly changing landscape.

She has produced original award-winning documentaries for Al-Jazeera International, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), and TV Ontario, among others. She covered the war in Afghanistan, leading to her best-selling first book, Under an Afghan Sky, which chronicled her experience as a hostage after she was kidnapped while on assignment in Kabul in 2008. Since then, Fung has focused on human rights reporting, with a focus on women and children in conflict. She is a frequent contributor to The Globe and Mail, and her work has also appeared in The Huffington Post, The Toronto Star, and on PBS. She holds a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University in New York. She was appointed as an officer to the Order of Canada in 2024 for her work with women in conflict. She lives in Toronto with her husband Paul and her scruffy rescue dog, Sammy.
